Tiny sea creatures under the microscope

Info

🦀 Did you know that between the grains of beach sand, there are tiny spaces filled with water, home to a fascinating array of microscopic creatures? These interstitial spaces are inhabited by crustaceans, worms, and other lesser-known organisms. Most people walking on the beach have no idea of the incredible biodiversity hidden beneath their feet! These organisms play an important role in the food web, being food for invertebrates and fish and transferring energy to higher trophic levels. On the Science Day, you’ll have the chance to: observe live meiofauna from a Belgian beach under the microscope; see stunning photographs of deep-sea meiofauna and learn why we can’t observe them alive on land.
