Indian Dhrupad Concert Sarod & Pakhawaj
Info
Nitish Purohit – Sarod, Nikhil Ghorpadkar - Pakhawaj
The Sarod, a majestic lute of North Indian classical music traces its ancestry to the Afghan Rubab Over centuries it has transformed acquiring a voice both powerful and lyrical deep in resonance and rich in tone.
This recital presents the Dhrupad the most ancient form of Indian raga music.
Meditative yet majestic It embodies timeless strength and devotion.
The Pakhawaj, a grand barrel-shaped drum, will accompany the Sarod.
Its powerful sound evokes the Tandav the cosmic dance of Lord Shiva,
a symbol of rhythm, creation, and destruction.
Together, Sarod and Pakhawaj creat a dialogue of string and drum,
of melody and rhythm of contemplation and energy.
To aid the imagination the Dhrupad may be seen as an Elephant—
slow, dignified, and vast.
Thus, the recital becomes a journey into sound from stillness to movement,
from silence to resonance from the earthly to the cosmic.
