"The economics of happiness" - DVD-voorstelling met inleiding

't Is crisis. De economie draait niet meer, het milieu en het klimaat zijn naar de knoppen. En ook de mens draait zot. Voor zover mensen niet ziek worden van vervuiling, stoppen ze zichzelf vol met pillen om stress en onzekerheid de baas te kunnen.
Kortom, het loopt fout. Om dit vast te stellen hebben we de film Economics of Happiness echt niet nodig. Maar de film brengt een uitgebreide inventaris en legt verbanden: mondialisering, fundamentalisme, schaalvergroting, verminderen van biodiversiteit, klimaatchaos, werkloosheid, financiële crisis... Er zijn relaties, en er zijn oplossingen.

De film brengt het relaas over mensen die opkomen tegen deregulering, tegen wetteloosheid. En doet verslag van pogingen op lokaal vlak terug te komen tot een economie, tot een samenleving op mensenmaat. Localisering i.p.v. globalisering.

En om dit alles te duiden zijn er getuigenissen uit heel de wereld. Je hoort Samdhong Rinpoche (premier in ballingschap van Tibet), Vandana Shiva (milieuactiviste die in 1993 de Right Livelihood Award ontving, bekend als een alternatieve Nobelprijs), Bill Mc Kibben (auteur, medewerker aan The New Yorker, New York Review of Book, Harper's), David Korten (oprichter en voorzitter van het 'People Centered Development Forum en bestuurslid van 'The Business Alliance for Local Living Economies'), Rodrigo Lopes (leider van de Braziliaanse beweging van landloze boeren (MST)), Mohau Pheko (coördinator van 'African Gender and Trade Network (GENTA)), Keibe Oiwa (cultureel antropoloog, oprichter van Sloth Club (Japanse milieubeweging voor 'Slow Life')) en vele anderen.

Economics op Happiness is een film die uitnodigt tot discussie en commentaar. En daar is dus voor gezorgd.
